Kelowna gets federal boost to fight harmful algae in lakes. The $200,000 monitoring system will protect drinking water and freshwater ecosystems from harmful algae blooms. Local authorities and First Nations will track water quality and cyanobacteria levels to prevent health and environmental risks as climate-driven changes affect the region’s lakes. Clean Energy Canada released a report outlining the benefits of heat pump installation in B.C. Many B.C. homes do not have built in cooling systems. Rapidly increasing temperatures lead to plugging in inefficient air conditioners and driving up energy costs to the home owner. Heat pumps can benefit the planet and your wallet. B.C.’s climate progress at risk as LNG expansion threatens emissions cuts. A new review of B.C.’s Clean BC climate plan warns that while some emission reductions have been achieved, expanding liquefied natural gas projects could erase much of that progress, and that tronger policies are needed if the province is to meet its 2030 climate targets.
