The final Public Hearing for the City of Vernon’s proposed new Official Community Plan is scheduled for Monday, November 10, 2025 at 5:30 p.m. in City Council Chambers (3400 – 30 Street). You can view the proposed new OCP online at Official Community Plan

It is critical that community members let Council know that we support the vision of the new OCP, which focuses on supporting development within existing neighbourhoods, both close to the city core as well as in already existing hillside developments.

By 2045, an additional 20,000 people are expected to move to our community. It is crucial that we support an OCP that ensures we find affordable houses for all, but doesn’t lose the qualities that make Vernon such a great place to live. As we have seen with recent development proposals – e.g. 580 Commonage – developers continue to push for new sprawl developments that will make them huge profits while resulting in a deteriorating quality of life and higher municipal taxes for the majority of Vernon and area residents.

Our new OCP must stay true to its vision of wise, controlled development, and NOT leave wriggle room for sprawl. Make your voice heard! Ideally you can show up in person at the public hearing. If that isn’t feasible, you can provide written comments, feedback, or support ahead of the hearing by Email: PHearings@vernon.ca and/or by dropping off your written submission at City Hall (3400 – 30 Street).
